Sara + Kaveh

Rim Rock Ranch, Pioneertown

Sara and Kaveh’s beautiful wedding was like no wedding we had been to before!  They eschewed tradition to create a wedding day that fitted them perfectly. Over 200 guests from all over the world came together to celebrate Sara and Kaveh’s marriage at Rim Rock Ranch, delivering heartfelt speeches and dancing the night away under a desert sky full of stars.

The weekend festivities began the day before, with a more intimate party at the Ruin. Drinks and dinner were accompanied by acoustic guitar as the sun set. After dark, the fairy lights came on and everyone gathered around the fires.

The wedding day took place at Rim Rock Ranch in Pioneertown, which Pow Wow Design Studio had transformed from a simple, dusty ranch to a lush, bohemian, moroccan-themed set-up, with lounges and low tables scattered across the property where guests gathered in informal groups, talking, drinking, smoking hookah and playing nard — the Persian version of backgammon.

For their ceremony, Sara, Kaveh and their guests sat in chairs set out in concentric circles. There was no processional or recessional, no bridesmaids or groomsmen; Sara and Kaveh and their guests simply sat in the chairs when they were ready for the ceremony to start. Family and friends gave speeches and a couple of them recited Rumi poems (which we were excited to use in the soundtrack) and then Sara and Kaveh read each other their personal vows while standing in the center of all their family and friends.

After the ceremony everyone enjoyed dinner, dancing, and dessert until 11pm, when they turned the lights out, switched to acoustic music, lit the fires, and ended the night by star gazing.

For their films, we wanted to convey the essence of this unusual wedding. We incorporated several timelapses — of the ceremony, reception, sunset, and stars. We shot aerial footage of the landscape and the beautiful set-up of the venue, as well as more simple shots that captured the emotion of the day.
